My name is Rob Jones. I live in Central WV. I have been playing the guitar since about 1990, and Drums since 1994. I listen to many styles of music, although jazz and Progressive Rock/Metal are my current favorites. Some of my influences: Joe Satriani, Steve Harris, Guthrie Govan, Dan Swano, Greg Howe, Wes Montgomery to name a few. I have released 4 full length CD's

I have uploaded some newer material here. I want to share these songs with my fellow classmates and staff. Comments are Welcome.

Q:Tell us about your act, music style, and brief history, including band members and what instruments they play.
A:I started playing guitar when I was about 14 or so, Eventually this turned into playing Bass. My senior year in HS we started a band called "Roadkill" we never gained much fame, we had some local followers. But when you play bars anything will sound good after a few drinks. :) In 1992 I started solo performances, and solo recording. Not having any formal music education, and being totally self taught. I began to run into creative barriers more and more. That's what brought me to Berklee.

Q:Do you have a fascination with Space? whats up with that?
A:I've always been fascinated with space and the possibilities that exist. I have also been working toward a Masters Degree in Astronomy. I also have a private observatory that I use for recreational viewing and an Educatinal destination for a local college. Many of my songs reflect aspects of the Universe, in a dark and curious way. Hence the reason for the atmospheric sounds.

Q:What are the names and release dates of your previous recordings?
A:1996 - The Beginning 2003 - Red Planet 2005 - Autumn

Q:What are you working on now?
A:In spare time between Assignments, I continue to work on new material.

Q:What kind of people or opportunities are you hoping to find on Berkleemusic?
A:I have enjoyed listining to my classmates projects and have learned a lot. But past that, expanding my musical knowledge is top priority.

This will be my last writing as a single man. I am getting married on June 21st (the Summer Solstice) to my long time girlfriend.

On the 30th I will begin my next term at berklee. I'm still focusing on guitar and production. Also I have a new album that will be made available sometime this summer. This project has dropped me deeper than ever into the world of melodic progressions and free jazz ideas. Couple that with my trademark grooves and harmonies and you're on your way...

More info soon...

Thanks for your continued support,

Rob

My Song "Blues for a Red Planet" was #37 last week on the Artist Underground site. I've never had one break the top 10 there, but just being in the top 50 is cool. You can listen and give me a good vote here.

Well I've been up and running for over a month now with ProTools 7.2, and I have to say this is an amazing piece of software. I've been going back and remastering all my "Autumn" tracks with PT. The new and improved versions of these songs will be available in CD format in a few months. The old versions continue to be available at MusicFreedom.com

I've also posted some of my assignments from here at Berklee on my webpage. I will be posting more as time permits. Check em out here

I'm gearing up for my 4th semester here at Berklee. This time around I'm taking Producing with Protools, Amps and Effects, and Song Writing WS Melody. I'm taking a break from guitar courses this time around, and focusing more on production and songwriting. I'm in the process of switching to a ProTools HD setup. This is quite exciting, and I can't wait to start recording some tracks!!

Hello all,

I feel it's time for an update. I will be beginning my 3rd Semester here at Berklee in a few days. I'm just finishing Theory 201, Blues Guitar WS and Desktop Music Production. All great classes by the way. My focus remains on Production and Guitar. Next term, I believe I'll be taking Amps and Effects, Style Writing, and Maybe Theory 301. Too many classes not enough time!

TT Studio update: Autmn - sales on this album still contine online. I have sold over 1000 units which is quite a milestone (for me). It is being marketed more in the Easy Listining genre that anywhere else. Although my overall feel was always targeting the Melodic Metal Head. Easy listeners contribute almost 70%.

New Album - well nothing official yet, but in my free time I continue to write new material. I have been learning so much here at berklee that current material becomes obsolete quickly. In other words after learning new ideas, the old ones somehow seem stale or not good enough.

I still spend at least 6 hours a day playing and recording. So I'll keep you guys posted!!
