Making Fire (Download)
Ah, lyrics and a normal song structure.....this is my attempt at making a "Radio friendly" piece...This song, while not my favorite, actually gets the greatest amount of positive feedback...go figure.

Heirborn (Download)
Another instrumental...I really intend to have a rock band with "sing-alongable" lyrics, but, while in the "working-out-the-kinks-phase", everything keeps coming out bizarre and ambient....Moving on....This piece includes a keyboard workstation, and a midi-sequencer....I am using several different phrygian scales here, so brownie points for that, however, the keyboard sounds way too "keyboardish"....I need to learn how to ue effects properly to get a more natural sound here (well, as natural as a digital instrument can get ;^)...I am also very proud of the beat....very off the wall....Which leads me to another point all my songs are lacking a lot of impact due to the fact that I have been recording the drum machine improperly......We'll leave it at that....

Ghost (Download)
This song is very busy and I think I ruined it with a poor mix. I am using an upright grand, an midi sequencer, a keyboard workstation, a sampler, and 4-track sequencer. I broke out my entire arsenal for this one and my lack of knowledge concerning how to combine it all shows. The song has lyrics, but I spared your ears and took it out. I performed this song live with three acoustic guitar players and a bass player...it sounded much better and got a great reaction from the crowd...This leads me to believe that there is potential here...it's just being lost in the mix....(HELP!)

Rope Burn (Download)
This also is an unfinished clip (sounds like I need to just FINISH IT, eh..). It is using a midi sequencer along with an electric guitar. The song was written using several different Japanese scales...The one you are here is the Hirajoshi scale in C.

Hatch (Download)
This is just a clip from an unfinished song....It, like everything I write, is intended to have a live band on top. this song is using a midi sequencer and an upright grand piano....The music was recorded onto an 8 track digital "studio in a box".....

Sample images of me and my work.
Reign of The Underdog (Download)
This was drawn by my brilliant soon to be album artist Daniel Willingham...the concept thought up by my good friend Nathan Warren...it's pretty self explanatory

T-shirt design (Download)
The T-rex is my music/dream...the machines are owned by....(you decided)....and are being used to keep the dinosaur/music/dream alive......if you don't get it, it is still something to marvel at....once again drawn by Daniel Willingham

I played in a garage band for six years...after the band split, I was drawn into the world of electronic music....cause hey...who needs a bunch of unenthusiastic, unreliable musicians when you can tell a machine what to do, right?.....At any rate, making the leap from singer/songwriter to digital music was quite a leap, and, after purchasing a sampler, sequencer, 8 track digital recorder, Midi command station, and a keyboard workstation, I realized that I had bitten off way more than I could chew....so, here I am now, to learn the way of the electronic musician....and while I'm at it...lets just go all out and become a producer...my vision is to combine; ancient music, a rock band, and the future of music into a 3:30-4:00 song....write about 15 of these songs...choose the best ten....record them....then spread my musical seed as far as possible, hopping to pick up a distribution deal along the way....there is, of course, much more to the plan...but I will stop now, as I tend to be a very wordy individual....

Q:Tell us about your act, music style, and brief history, including band members and what instruments they play.
A:I would like to function as the brain and spinal cord of the act...I will use digital equipment and computers to create rhythms and melodies....these "synthetic", "futuristic" elements will then be fused with a live band (piano, drums, bass, guitar...)...then, for show, a third element will be added....something strange and quirky that will bring zest to the song....(percussion section, small choir, string quartet....mouth harpist, etc....)...and then, on top of all that, I will sing.....as of right now, I am the only band member...however due to my connections in the local music scene and with the advances in online communications, I should be able to find the players necessary....I would like for it to be less of a band and more of a community where each recording session and performance will involve different musicians... each one bringing their own unique abilities and insights to the songs, as improvisation will be encouraged....

Q:What have been some important gigs or venues you've played?
A:Nothing recently....but in the past, my garage band, Thousand Hour Day, performed at a large arts festival in Huntsville, Alabama called Panoply....not sure how many in attendance...several hundred coming and going....think a smaller Lallapolooza for yuppies....and also, we won a song writing contest sponsored by Ernie Ball that earned us a spot on the 2001 Vans Warped tour....

Q:What are the names and release dates of your previous recordings?
A:Names: Thousand Hour Day, Life Through Anothers Eyes, Who Knew, and Godflesh......... Release Dates: They are all experimental and sophmoric...if you want a copy...ask me for one...that'll be the release date....but that's why I'm here...so I can learn how to make an album that I will be proud of....THEN, I'll release it....oh, will I ever.....

Q:What are you working on now?
A:Ikh Khorig...(look it up)....it will be my masterpiece...it will contain all the elements listed in the first answer to this "interview"....think, trip hop meets art rock meets classical meets improvisational....should be delicious.....Also, I am doing as much reading and studying on the side as possible on the subject of theory, arranging, composing, and home studio production....

Q:What kind of people or opportunities are you hoping to find on Berkleemusic?
A:I am looking for any one who can and is willing to help me bring my project to life...I am looking very forward to receiving honest feedback on my work so that I can know what to improve, as well as learning all the skills I possibly can to be able to produce my music....Opporunities?....I don't know, I like opportunites to surpise me...... ; ^ )

Wow...I am tired.....My teacher, David Franz, Pro Tools Guru, has graciously extended the due date for all assignments to April 4th. THANK YOU GOD! I am really learning more about myself than I am about music production right now. I am knee deep in the concept of, "I am the creator of my own destiny....". In other words, I am capable of accomplishing just about anything I want. I have more motivation that I could ever ask for and it is really just a matter of saying, "Get to work!!!" I am really looking forward to re-recording all my old songs properly as well as recording some new ones too. I have learned the importance of proper prior planning where making an album is concerned and not just rushing through stuff, throwing it out there haphazardly. I want very badly to make an album as I am brimming with ideas and inspiration right now...but I guess I just need to learn to be patient because the more I learn about music production, the better my album will be.....

I have a lot more to say, but it's really "blog type stuff" and not "news"....I am going to get back to working very hard at becoming the best I can be......I'll drop some more news in the not-to-distant future....peace.

Oh, me and my stupid mood swings...I am still behind with my school work but on the upside I currently have a wonderful feeling which was evoked by this evenings rehearsal. One song finished, another in the works. Both new, both strong....looking very forward to putting together the jigsaw that is a live conjuring of Munook.....yes, I said conjuring......

I feel as if the side of a mountain is coming down on me.......I am having a lot of difficulty piecing together my "Studio".....every time I turn around, I need a new piece of gear......No worries though....Could be worse.....I just have to calm down and think logically. On the positive side.....I have A LOT of new "toys" to make music with.....The number of option makes my head spin........I officially have my first "helping hand".....Ladies and Gentleman, Jason "The Thrift Store Kid" Willingham. This extremely gifted multi instrumentalist is going to help me craft some new tunes, re-write some old ones, and be an extra set of hands on stage......I am very excited about this, although, it is taking some getting used to as I have been working alone for over 5 years now......Finally, in recent news, I have set up an account with sonic bids......I find this very interesting....For a small price, you have a shot of getting hooked up with a lot of very helpful people (as far as live gigs go.....)....Well, that about sums it up for today.....back to work.....oh yeah....here is the link to the sonic bids deal.....

Long time, no leave some news....Well, between school, work, and children, I have been making up a lot of lame excuses to not make music. HA! Seriously though. things are starting to come together as far as me just getting out there and getting paid. It hasn't happened yet, but I know what to do to get there....I must manage my time better and get on the ball. New equipment should be arriving soon. Can't wait until my mixes are better. Don't forget to check out www.myspace.com/munook Have a merry Christmas!!!!

I am tired...after my first 6 weeks in class, I have learned a tremendous amount about my own music and feel suddenly embarrassed that I let so many people hear what I have been doing.....But oh, well....that was nature's course, nothing much I can do about that now....moving on.....I must turn this unfinished basement into a project studio....looking forward to having my own space to create music in....however I am not looking forward to breaking my back....Well, I guess there is really nothing else to do....wait for grass to grow...watch t.v.......???? Yep, I know I should so I guess I might as well...........

October 6, 2007
began classes....they are wasting no time sticking it to me...I like it though, keeps me busy and out of trouble....I have written SEVERAL songs over the past four years.....the recordings are all amateur and most of it is completely "experimental"....however, I did pour myself out into them, so there is some worth there.....and because of that....I am compiling 22 of my favorite songs on to one CD and selling that sucker for 2 bucks a piece.....

August 10, 2007
I am working on a new song called "Ghost"....it still lacks the polish and pro sound of a real studio recording...(once again...that's why I registered for these classes)....but the heart and soul is definatly there....
