My name is Boyan Hristov. I am Bulgarian. I have a schollarship from Berklee College of Music - the best music school in the world. I am a bit strange. I look for an alternative in anything I do. Especially music. I don't want to sound like anybody else. I read as much as I can. I am full of unexpected energy. I even surprise myself. Music is the most important thing in my life but I also love my family and friends.

Q:Tell us about what you do A: I play as a solo act or with bands.
As a solo act I am energetic and I tend to get the most out of the instrument I play. I use non standard tunings, 2 hand tapping techniques, slides. I play both fingerstyle and flatpicking.
As a band member I play for the band, for the song. I sound different. I make my parts recognizable and essential parts of an arrangement. I never overplay. I play tasteful. I am not a shredder, yet my parts are not always easy to play.
I also sing.
I play most of the styles that you expect a guitarist to play - like pop, rock, blues, funk, RnB, etc, but I also play classical, Balkan music, and contemporary fingerstyle.
Q:What have been some important gigs you've played? How much experience do you have? A: I recently participated in an "Emergenza" festival for solo acoustic guitar - "Acoustic Hero" and I won it.
I have more than two thousand gigs so far. I have played solo, with duets, trios, quartets, quintets, a sextet... I have played more styles of music that I really want to count. I have been in many original projects. In short - I know a lot of stuff.
I love to perform and get everyone involved in the party. I connect with the audience and manipulate it. I love doing it.
Q:Gear? A: I am a freak. I need to sound great.
I have four custom built electric guitars an amazing acoustic, a stunning resonator and ukulele. I have a funny looking silent classical guitar that makes people turn their heads.
My pedal board is ridiculously huge and and i try to make sense of it... I have piezos in two of my electric guitars so I can surprise with acoustic guitar tone from my electric ones.
Q:Links? A: www.boyanhristov.com - everything you would ask about me is there. Find it.
www.myspace.com/boyanhristov - a myspace addict...
www.myspace.com/bhguitar - project "My Bulgaria" online. It's pretty serious.
www.sonicbids.com/boyan - my EPK
www.purevolume.com/boyan - another profile, in case you are also there...
Q:Do you play other instruments? A: I play the guitar in so many different ways that you will think that I am the ultimate multi instrumentalist, lol
Yet, I play just acoustic, electric, resonator, ukulele and bass guitar (YES!!!). Some tamboura and hand percussion.

I haven't updated this section in awhile so here it comes - I went to Hawaii for a few gigs with "Third Rail"in May and bought a tenor ukulele. Then Nav, Keita and I recorded some new music - the album is called "Getting Friendly". As summer started I recorded the second CD for "My Bulgaria" project and then went to Chicago and Las Vegas to play gigs in support of the CD. Then i went on a holiday in San Francisco where I had a great time, met unbelievable people, played exciting gigs, wrote many songs... if you want to check some pics, click here 1, here 2, here 3.Otherwise I have been in New York since June and have been playing my resonator guitar in the subway with a great success.. Thanks to everyone who bought CDs, danced, sung, played with me, clapped their hands, and enjoyed themselves while i was doing my thing. There's a lot about to happen, but i will get back with this as soon as I am back from my trip to Arjentina for my uncle's wedding.
Peace,
