I'm a classically trained violinist and violist with over 25 years experience, currently doing improvisational playing for Rock/Pop/Folk/Jazz/Classical gigs and session work for singer/songwriters, bands, shows, and others.
I play 5-string Steinberger and Skyinbow, and 6-string Tucker Barrett electric violins, plus 5-string acoustic violins, as well as traditional acoustic violin and viola, and can do backing vocals.
While currently working with {The Milling Gowns}, composer/pianist Sharon Crumrine, plus my rock chamber group The String Sluts and my solo looping project Reverse Polish Notation, I'm available for GB gigs and session work in all genres in the Boston area - please inquire about my schedule.
I've also co-taught a class in Improvisation at The New School of Music.

Q:What have been some important gigs or venues you've played? A:I've played shows in many of the more prestigious venues for various musical genres in the Boston area, including the Orpheum Theater, Club Passim, Johnny D's, Ryles Jazz Club, Harpers Ferry, and the Middle East, as well as out of town clubs such as Connelly's in NYC, The Call in Providence RI and The Galaxy Hut in Virginia. I've also played large events such as the Harpoon Brewery St. Pat's Festival.
Q:What are the names and release dates of your recordings? A:
"Cheers (Raise a Pint)", an original Irish Punk song by The Gobshites, on the Irish Punk/Rock Compilation "What the Shite? Shite 'n' Onions Vol 2", released by Omnium/Northside March 2006
"When the Shite Hits the Fans", The Gobshites, March 2005 (Good Cop/Bad Cop Records);
"Questioningly", an Irish Punk cover of the Ramones' song by The Gobshites, on the tribute album "Todos Somos Ramones" from Rockaway Records (Argentina) in November 2004 - Read the Rolling Stone release article here
 "The Road to Wichita",The Beau Roland Band, August 2004;
 "Dynamite and Other Inventions", Grubstake, August 2004;
 "The Trouble With Success, Or How You Fit Into The World", Paula Kelley Orchestra, September 2003 (US), April 2004 (EU);
Q:What has been said about you in the press? A:"The Gobshites give the strongest performance with 'Cheers,' a tune that has more of a traditional feel than most of the disc, which leans more to the revved-up Flogging Molly side of things. It's got a slyly infectious chorus that will be in your head for days at a time, and Betty Widerski adds some very nice violin work."

"For this album mastermind Pat McHugh brought in several Boston area music veterans to help interpret his increasingly complex songs: Chris Brokaw (ex-Come), James Apt (ex-Six Finger Satellite), Betty Widerski (Ad Frank, Paul Kelley Orchestra), & Chilly Kurtz (Caged Heat).--

"The ubiquitous Betty Widerski, with her electric violin, leads a stellar string ensemble through a spectacular arrangement of 'Nice Butt.' "

"With homey acoustic ballads that waltz and sway, balanced against dragging indie pop and lo-fi alt. folk, 'The Road To Wichita' evokes both feelings of ennui and hope. This primarily acoustic affair utilizes lazily drawn fiddle, timid banjo and subtle lap steel, along with the standard rhythm section to enhance these contemplative and reflective tunes with folksy charm."
- - Miles of Music listing for the Beau Roland Band debut CD
****
"As usual, the fiddle player is sharp and inventive, and makes sure that the rest of the band remembers the Celtic half of their schtick."
- -Brian Mosher, The Noise, October 2004, referring to The Gobshites live
@ Sean O'Toole's, Plymouth MA, on September 10, 2004
